Most big Japanese airports have a train or monorail into the city — so travellers land at Hiroshima and go looking for the station platform. It isn't there. Hiroshima Airport (HIJ) was built inland, about 50 km east of the city, and the only practical public route in is the airport limousine bus. The good news: it's cheap, direct, and timed to flights.

Two useful destinations: JR Hiroshima Station (best if you're catching a Shinkansen or staying near the station), and the Hiroshima Bus Center in the Kamiyacho/Hatchobori area (handy for the Peace Memorial Park, Miyajima ferries via tram, and many downtown hotels). Both are around the same ¥1,500 range; pick by where you're sleeping, not by a few yen.
Take the airport limousine bus for ¥1,500 — there's no train, and it's far cheaper than a ~50 km taxi. Choose the departure that matches your base (station vs bus center), keep a little time buffer because seating is unreserved, and put the taxi money toward okonomiyaki.
